#EndSARS protester reportedly killed in Surulere, Lagos (Videdo)

A peaceful protester in Surulere, Lagos state has been reportedly shot dead by the police in the state.

This is coming amidst reports that the security agents are shooting sporadically at protesters in the area. Nigerians are protesting against activities of the Special Anti Robbery Squad, SARS and police brutality.

According to reports, a peaceful demonstration in Surulere area of Lagos has ended in tragedy, with the target of the protest bearing its beastly pangs again, killing one of the unarmed protesters.

The marchers were peaceful until some armed policeman shot at one of them, killing him. The slain man in his 20s has not been identified.

Fellow protesters and a medical team embedded in the demonstration, tried in vain to save him.

Courage Ngele, one of the protesters announced the tragedy:

“We just lost a Nigerian to a gunshot, at the Surulere protest Broken heartBroken heartBroken heartBroken heart

“The medical team did their best to keep him alive. The young Nigerian also put up a good fight.

“Unfortunately, he couldn’t make it”, he wrote.

The Inspector-General of Police, Mohammed Adamu, yesterday announced the dissolution of the dreaded police formation, Special Anti Robbery Squad (SARS or FSARS).

Buhari in a video on Monday, has now spoken further, stating that he also directed that all those responsible for misconduct or wrongful acts be brought to justice.

”I will like to use this opportunity to say a word on the recent genuine concerns and agitations by Nigerians about the excessive use of force and in some cases extra-judicial killings and wrongful conduct of the men of the Nigerian Police Force,’’

“The disbanding of SARS is only the first step in our commitment to extensive police reforms in order to ensure that the primary duty of the police and other law enforcement agencies remains the protection of lives and livelihood of our people,”

“We will also ensure that all those responsible for misconduct and wrongful acts are brought to justice.”

”We deeply regret the loss of life of the young man in Oyo State during the recent demonstrations.

”I have directed that the circumstances of his death should be thoroughly investigated.

”Meanwhile, it is important to recognise that the vast majority of men and women of the police force are hardworking and diligent in performing their duties.

”The few bad eggs should not be allowed to tarnish the image and reputation of the force.”
