Nigerian-British Born Eberechi Eze Believes Past Meetings Helped Crystal Palace To Victory Against Leeds

Eberechi Eze believes his prior knowledge of Leeds United helped him and Crystal Palace to victory at Selhurst Park.

Marcelo Bielsa’s side fell to a 4-1 defeat for a second Premier League outing in a row against the Eagles on Saturday afternoon.

Palace defender Scott Dann put the hosts ahead after just 12 minutes before Patrick Bamford saw a goal chalked off by VAR.

Eberechi Eze then added a second with a delightful free-kick to compound the visitors misery moments later as his effort crashed off the underside of the crossbar.

Bamford did get on the scoresheet before half-time but a freak Helder Costa own goal and a second half Jordan Ayew strike sealed the Whites’ fate in the capital.

Eze – who joined Palace in the summer from London neighbours Queens Park Rangers – revealed post-match that his previous outings against Bielsa’s men helped him to his first top flight goal and assist.

“Yeah, 100 per cent,” Eze reflected afterwards over whether he could draw on his experience.

“Knowing what I’m going to come up against helps – the man marking all over the pitch.

“It helped us all I think because we have a lot of one v one players that want the ball. They want to beat their man. It was a good performance for us.”

Asked about what the key to victory against United was, he added: “After the first goal went in we made sure we didn’t sit in and soak up all the pressure.

“We took it to them and tried to get another one and another one. It’s come good today so we’re grateful.”
