Richard Keys has called Chelsea owner Todd Boehly a lunatic after he reportedly asked TV star James Corden for advice before hiring Frank Lampard as caretaker manager for the Blues.
Ever since the Boehly-led consortium took over Chelsea last year, the American has been making headlines left, right, and centre.
Most recently, after paying a record fee to hire Graham Potter, the former Brighton and Hove Albion boss was sacked after a poor campaign.
Chelsea owner Todd Boehly raised eyebrows when he rehired club legend Frank Lampard who was sacked by the club back in January 2021.
The American businessman reportedly sought advice from TV star James Corden before making the decision.
According to reports, Corden’s suggestion of hiring Lampard was favored by Boehly, adding to the intrigue surrounding Chelsea’s management decisions.
After news broke that Jesse Marsch had turned down an offer to take over at Leicester, Keys took aim at the former Leeds boss and Boehly.
He wrote: “Who does he [Marsch] think he is?
“Maybe he’s had a call from that lunatic Boehly telling him to hold off because he’s in line to replace Lampard?
“Boehly, we read, is now taking advice from James Corden. Well – it makes sense doesn’t it? Perhaps Fred Karno was engaged when he tried to call him? Seriously. What is Marsch waiting for? I don’t see him getting another offer to work in the PL.”
Keys also blasted Boehly after the decision to sack Potter was confirmed last week.
The beIN Sports presenter said: “What a shambles the owner of Chelsea, Todd Boehly, has created at The Bridge.
“Potter’s sacking was inevitable and overdue. Sacking him isn’t a mistake – sacking Tuchel was.
“I really wanted Potter to succeed, but it’s been evident for weeks that he was out of his depth. This morning he’s got to be as relieved as he is rich. What other business rewards failure like football does? It’s madness.”
Lampard’s second stint as Chelsea boss started in the worst possible way as the Blues were beaten 1-0 by Wolverhampton Wanderers on Saturday.
Next up for Chelsea will be the small matter of a Champions League quarter-final first leg against holders Real Madrid on Wednesday night.
