Chelsea Eye Move For Former Manager To Succeed Graham Potter Permanently

Carlo Ancelotti has reportedly been added to Chelsea‘s list of potential candidates for the managerial position following the departure of Graham Potter.

The veteran Italian coach managed to restore his reputation after an unimpressive tenure at Everton by leading Real Madrid to a surprise Champions League triumph last season.

However, his future at the Spanish club appears to be uncertain, and only another successful defence of the title they won against Liverpool in Paris last May is likely to save his job.

Chelsea’s hierarchy has taken note of Ancelotti’s precarious situation, and he could be considered as a potential candidate for the vacant position.

The Blues have already begun the process of searching for Potter’s replacement but are expected to conduct an extensive search as they seek to find the right candidate for their significant rebuilding project.

Several managers have been linked with the job, including Julian Nagelsmann and Luis Enrique, who have already held discussions with the club this week.

Mauricio Pochettino and even Jose Mourinho are also reportedly on Chelsea’s radar as they seek to appoint a new manager.

According to ESPN, Ancelotti ticks many of the boxes Chelsea are looking for in a new head coach and the 63-year-old’s willingness to work alongside a technical director suits the model in place at Stamford Bridge.

arlo Ancelotti, who won a Premier League and FA Cup double during his two-year stint as Chelsea manager between 2009 and 2011, has emerged as a potential candidate to replace Graham Potter.

Frank Lampard, meanwhile, has embraced the club’s “collaborative” vision for the future as he takes the reins as interim boss for the remainder of the season.

Potter was sacked on Sunday, just 31 games into his five-year contract, and Chelsea find themselves languishing in the 11th spot on the Premier League table despite spending over £500 million since Todd Boehly’s Clearlake Capital consortium took charge in May.

The Blues have scored fewer goals than any other team in the top half of the table, prompting them to commence discussions with ex-Spain boss Luis Enrique, who flew to London on Wednesday, about the vacant managerial position.

Julian Nagelsmann, who left Bayern Munich in March, is also being considered for the role.

Chelsea has made it clear that they will conduct a thorough search for their next manager, following their hasty appointment of Potter in September last year, just one day after Thomas Tuchel’s sacking.

Lampard is the club’s all-time top scorer, netting 211 times across a 13-year spell at Stamford Bridge, but was dismissed after only 18 months when he returned as manager under former owner Roman Abramovich.

Despite the turmoil that has rocked the club during a disappointing season, he said that he has observed plenty within the owners’ plans for the club to convince him they are suitable custodians.

‘From conversations I’ve had with the people running the club now, they’ve all been very positive,’ said Lampard. ‘I’m very experienced now in working at different clubs.

You get an understanding of what you feel like is a club that has a vision and wants to move forward.

‘Of course, it’s about people at that point. Good people working in the right direction, collaborating and talking, trying to find the right way. That’s the sense I’ve had in coming here. I’m ready to play my part in that process.’
