Chelsea Eye Double Transfer Swap to Secure Champions League Finalist

Chelsea are reportedly exploring a potential double transfer swap with Inter Milan as they aim to secure the services of goalkeeper Andre Onana.

The Blues could offload defender Kalidou Koulibaly as part of the deal, while Romelu Lukaku expresses his desire to stay with the Serie A club.

Incoming Chelsea manager Mauricio Pochettino is keen on strengthening the goalkeeper position during the summer transfer window, as neither Kepa Arrizabalaga nor Edouard Mendy have convinced the Argentine to entrust them with the No. 1 role.

Chelsea have been linked with goalkeepers from both Milan clubs, with AC Milan’s Mike Maignan reportedly on their radar.

However, recent reports suggest that the interest in Onana has gained momentum, prompting Chelsea to consider a potential double swap deal to secure his signature.

According to The Sun, Chelsea is looking to offload two players to Inter Milan this summer. Lukaku, who has spent the season on loan at San Siro, could make a permanent return to the Italian club.

Meanwhile, Koulibaly’s future at Stamford Bridge seems uncertain after just one season. Talks have reportedly taken place regarding the Senegal international potentially heading in the same direction as Lukaku.

Koulibaly made his long-awaited move to the Premier League last summer, joining Chelsea from Napoli for a fee of around £33 million. However, the defender endured a disappointing first season in English football, which might prompt his return to Italy.

As for Lukaku, discussions with Pochettino will determine his club future. Nevertheless, the Belgian forward reportedly prefers to continue his career in Milan next season.

Onana is valued at around £55 million by Inter Milan, with the 27-year-old having joined the Italian club last summer after leaving Ajax on a free transfer.

If the deal materializes, Inter would make a substantial profit on the former Cameroon international. The club has already identified Guglielmo Vicario from Empoli as a potential replacement for Onana in goal.

Onana played a key role in Inter’s journey to the Champions League final this season, where they narrowly lost to Manchester City in the title match in Istanbul. After the final, Onana expressed his contentment at Inter but acknowledged that anything can happen during the summer transfer window.

In his post-match comments, Onana said, “I’m so, so happy at Inter. At this professional level, you never know what happens. I’m available for Inter, they decide, and I will accept their decision. I’m happy at Inter.”

As Chelsea continues its pursuit of Onana, the potential double transfer swap with Inter Milan could significantly reshape both clubs’ squads for the upcoming season, adding intrigue to the summer transfer market.
