Chaos ensured on Wednesday evening after a group of daring armed rubbers stormed the phone market in the Okelewo area of Ogun State.
The rubbers invaded the market in large numbers, shooting sporadically in the air and carting away large numbers of expensive mobile phones.
In the chaos, one person was shot and killed, however, the traders summoned courage and were able to capture one of the rubbers who was subsequently handed over to the police.
Confirming the incident, the spokesman of the Ogun State Police Command, Abimbola Oyeyemi stated that the command successfully repelled the rubbers adding that the gang and the officers engaged each other in gunfire the police prevailed due to superior firepower, which, with the help of the traders led to the arrest of one of the member of the gang identified as, Adeniji Sikiru.
“Unfortunately, one Dayo Bankole, a trader in the market, who was shot by the robbers gave up the ghost while receiving treatment at the General Hospital Ijaye Abeokuta.,” Oyeyemi said.
