Brazil Legend Romario Says He’s Better Than Lionel Messi, Give Reason [Video]

Former Barcelona and Brazil footballer Romario has claimed that he is better that Argentine superstar and World Cup winner Lionel Messi.

Both Romario and Messi had impressive spells during their stints with Barcelona and are both held in high esteem at Camp Nou.

Although, Messi is touted as the greatest player in the history of Barcelona and by extension the greatest in the sport, Romario has a contrasting view.

No doubt a prolific goalscorer, Romario scored 55 goals in 70 games for the Brazilian national side, and a spectacular amount of goals throughout his career for both club and country.

With Ronaldo currently on 608 career goals, and Messi not far behind on 573, there is certainly time for the pair to reach Romario’s official tally of 743 (although Romario himself claims to have hit over 1,000).

Romario, who made 65 appearances for Barcelona, scoring 39 goals and providing 11 assists, reckons that his versatility makes him a better player than Argentina’s World Cup-winning captain. “Because we play different positions. In his position, he is the best. In mine, I am better than he is,” Romario said as quoted by Sportskeeda.

Between goalkeepers Andoni Zubizarretta and Victor Valdes, Romario also picked the former as the team’s goalkeeper.

He opted for Dani Alves over Albert Ferrer as the team’s right-back and when it was the time to choose between Pep Guardiola and Sergio Busquets as the defensive midfielder of his team, Romario picked the now Manchester City boss.

He picked Ronald Koeman over Gerard Pique and Angel Nadal over Javier, Mascherano, and Iniesta over Bakero.

He picked Sergi Barjuan over Eric Abidal at left-back and Stoichkov over David Villa.

He preferred Xavi over Guillermo Amor and opted for Txiki over Pedro and for the No.9 position he chose himself over Lionel Messi.
