Bad News For Gunners: William Saliba Has ‘Serious Structural Damage’ – Faces Long Injury Lay-Off

Arsenal defender William Saliba is facing the possibility of a long-term lay-off due to “serious structural damage” to his back, according to recent reports.

The 21-year-old Frenchman has been out of action since he sustained the injury during Arsenal’s Europa League last-16 defeat to Sporting Lisbon on March 16.

While the club was initially hopeful that Saliba would be able to return for their crucial match against Manchester City on Wednesday, it has now been confirmed that he will not be available.

The Mail has reported that the injury has alerted medics to a bulging lumbar disc, but Arsenal has insisted that his absence is not due to this.

The club has been working hard to get Saliba fit for the closing weeks of the Premier League season, but there is growing concern over his long-term welfare. It is feared that playing again this season could risk causing further damage and lead to a lengthy spell on the sidelines.

Saliba has been eager to return to action to help his team in their pursuit of the title, and there were reports that he had recently returned to training on grass.

However, Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta will need to carefully consider whether it is worth gambling on the Frenchman’s fitness. It may be wiser to allow Saliba to recover fully over the summer and come back stronger for the start of next season.

Arsenal’s quest for their first title since 2004 has undoubtedly played a part in their treatment of Saliba. However, with defeat against Manchester City likely to significantly diminish their title chances, there is now a realization that rushing Saliba back could be a risk not worth taking.

It is possible that the club may decide to prioritize his long-term health over their short-term ambitions.

In Saliba’s absence, Rob Holding has stepped in to deputize for the Frenchman. However, Arsenal’s defense has struggled, conceding nine goals and winning just two of the five league games in which Holding has played.

The absence of Saliba, who is widely regarded as one of the club’s brightest young talents, has been keenly felt, and Arsenal will be hoping that he can make a full and speedy recovery.
