Arsenal Star Told He ‘Can Play For Any Big Team In The World’

Former Gunner Bacary Sagna has said that Arsenal captain Martin Odegaard is good enough to play for any club in world football.

The Norwegian has been one of Arsenal’s best players this season with Mikel Arteta’s side currently top of the Premier League.

Odegaard, who joined the north London side from Real Madrid in 2021, has registered eight goals and six assists across 20 top-flight games this term.

The 24-year-old is under contract until 2025 and has scored 17 goals and made 13 assists in total for Arsenal across 87 games in all competitions.

Sagna feels Odegaard is playing at a similar level to Chelsea legend Frank Lampard in his prime as well as Manchester City hero Kevin De Bruyne.

The ex-Arsenal right-back told Premier League Odds: ‘Martin Odegaard is already playing at the same level as David Silva, Frank Lampard and Kevin De Bruyne did and are now.

‘He can play for any big team in the world, he’s been Arsenal’s most consistent player.

‘Odegaard reminds me of Kevin De Bruyne the most because they have the freedom to go forward and drop back to collect the ball, because their delivery is class, they find space and create chances for their teammates.’

Arsenal face Premier League title rivals City on Wednesday and are three points clear of Pep Guardiola’s second-placed side having played a game less.

The Gunners are looking to win their first top-flight title since 2004 while City have lifted four of the last five Premier League trophies and knocked Arteta’s team out of the FA Cup last month.

‘The fans will support the team from the start all the way to the end because they know the importance of the game.

‘There’s more pressure on Arsenal than Manchester City because they are top of the league.

‘Manchester City will try to keep possession of the ball, but Arsenal have the speed and quality to give them pressure.

‘Both coaches will know how each one wants to play, tactically it will be very interesting. I think it will be 2-2, which suits Arsenal.’
