Arsenal Player People Almost Gave Up On That Came Back With A ‘Bang’

Former Arsenal player, Ian Wright, has named forward Reiss Nelson as the Gunners star people almost gave up on him.

Wright said he was so happy that Nelson ended up staying at Arsenal this season.

Nelson, who joined Mikel Arteta’s side at the age of eight, broke into Arsenal’s first-team back in the 2017-2018 season.

The 22-year-old has played just four league games for Arsenal since then, spending a season on loan at Hoffenheim and Feyenoord before returning to the North London club last summer.

Nelson scored a brace and made an assist as Arsenal defeated Nottingham Forest 5-0 in the Premier League last weekend.

Speaking on the Wrighty’s House podcast, he said: “I am so happy for him. Do you know what I love about him? We are talking about somebody who people almost gave up on and said he should leave.

“But it is like Mikel Arteta has said, “this is a clean slate, guys. What have you got, show me what you’ve got.

“I am really pleased he ended up staying and his goals [against Nottingham Forest] were great, he was composed and didn’t panic.”

 Reiss Luke Nelson popularly as Reiss Nelson is a winger for the English professional football club Arsenal FC and the England U-21 team. He is known for his ball passing, technique, and ball control.

Nelson was born on 10 December 1999 in Elephant and Castle, London to a Zimbabwean father and English mother.

He grew up in the city’s Aylesbury Estate and attended the London Nautical School. He became friends with fellow aspiring footballer Jadon Sancho, who lived nearby after they played together in youth tournaments.

Born in London, England, to parents of Zimbabwean and English lineage, he joined the Arsenal academy when he was nine years old and made a great impression on youth coaches, subsequently being regularly moved up to squads above his age group.

Following several impressive performances in the youth teams, he signed his first professional contract with Arsenal on 10 December 2016. On 19 July 2017, the youngster made his first senior appearance against European opposition Bayern Munich in a 2017 International Champions Cup pre-season match.

His first competitive appearance for Arsenal’s first team came in the 2017 Community Shield, coming on as a substitute against Chelsea as Arsenal went on to win 4-1 on penalties, giving the youngster his first piece of silverware.

On 20 January 2018, the Englishman made his Premier League debut, coming on as a second-half substitute in a 4-1 win against Crystal Palace. On 8 April 2018, he made his first Premier League start in a 3-2 win over Southampton. On 31 August 2018, he was sent out on a season-long loan to the German Bundesliga club 1899 Hoffenheim.

On 15 September 2018, he made his debut as a 72nd-minute substitute against Fortuna Düsseldorf, and scored within 14 minutes of entering the field of play, as Hoffenheim fell to a 2–1 defeat. Went to Feyenoord on loan in August 2021 which ended June 2022. Now he is back to Arsenal and Mikel Arteta gave him a chance with the first team in the game against Nottingham Forest which he score 2 goals.
