Arsenal ran out 3-1 winners on the day thanks to goals from Thomas Partey, Gabriel Jesus and Granit Xhaka but it was a challenge from Kane that left some supporters incensed as he managed to avoid any punishment. In a 50-50 tussle for the ball, the Gunners’ Brazilian defender tumbled as Kane knees him in the back, and, once he hit the floor, Kane kicked out at him as he fell over too.
It was a challenge that was not spotted or acted upon though, as referee Anthony Taylor and VAR did not deem the infringement serious enough to bring back play in order to punish Kane.
Partey had given Arsenal the lead before Kane equalized from the spot. The Gunners then took the lead through Jesus, and Spurs wing-back Emerson Royal was sent off before Arsenal doubled their lead through Xhaka.
The Kane challenge on Gabriel happened after all the major events, though it did not stop Arsenal fans from getting frustrated and questioning the referee.
Gooners were bemused by referee Taylor’s decision not to intervene and have not forgotten past North London derbies where Kane has got away with other similarly cynical challenges, in which he has almost always got away with it.
